Fixing Missing DLL Errors on Windows

Isn’t it frustrating to receive an error when starting an application you use all the time? It happens much more often than you might think, so you have company when you need it. Often with this type of error, you can report a missing .dll entry that you have no idea about. Where should I look for this entry? How can I fix the error? We have answers to all these questions. But let’s start at the beginning.

What is a .dll file?

According to TechSathi, Dynamic Link Library, or DLL is a shared library of instructions that can be used by two or more programs. Normally, all programs are divided into several modules, and .dll documents contain these modules, especially those typical of programs. Dll files help with code modularization, code reuse, efficient memory usage, and lower disk space. All of this means that programs run faster and more efficiently. Since it is not an independent file like an executable file (.EXE), a running program should explicitly call this file.

Daily problem with .dll file

Although .dll files have a great way to share code, they also develop their problems. Every time a program uses a dll, it creates a dependency. If another program uses the same dll and changes its content, or worse deletes the file itself, the first program’s reliance gets broken, causing the first program to stop running. This dependency is broken in the following scenarios.

  • When a dependent dll, a .dll file being used by another program, is upgraded.
  • If someone removes a dependent .dll file from the system by mistake or intentionally.
  • When a program or user fixes problem existing in a dependent .dll file.
  • When a dependent file is overwritten with an earlier version.

Each of these problems is called a .dll conflict, and this is when you get the “missing .dll file” error.

Fixing .dll file

There are many ways to fix a “missing .dll file” error.

Never Get a .dll Entry: Although it may seem tempting to get the missing .dll file on the net, this is a solution you want to avoid. First, the downloaded .dll entry may contain malware that can infect your entire system. To make matters worse, the downloaded version may not match your operating system’s variant, which can certainly optimize your problems.

Restart PC: The easiest way to correct the missing .dll file is to restart your PC. In most cases, you will encounter cache problems, which a reboot will solve automatically. However, if some .dll files are missing, you will not be able to restart your PC.

Retrieve Deleted Files: If this is correct, locate your junk and then restart it. Alternatively, you can use a file recovery program to recover deleted files. However, note that this technique will not solve the problem if the .dll document was damaged before it was deleted. It will only do the job for good .dll files that have been deleted in some way.

Malware: Malware programs create add-on .dll documents that may interfere with the operation of current documents. To prevent this from happening, scan your computer with an excellent malware application. Restart your PC and see if the desired program works.

Restore your System: Although not the smartest option, you can perform a System Restore to reset your computer’s request to an earlier date. This may correct the error with the missing .dll file. However, some recent changes made to parts of the registry and configured applications will be lost.

Reinstalling the Program: If you have received the first CD or are ready to reinstall the applications that caused the missing .dll file to fail, examine them. This should often solve the problem, especially if it caused a conflict with other programs running.

Update the Device Drivers and Windows: This error may be caused by an earlier version of the driver that supports the updated .dll registry, so the printer will search and not find the wrong .dll document. Some Windows updates can modify or replace .dll files so that they are not available when another application wants to use them. Update Windows and see if this fixes the error.
